It starts with chest pain, you become short of breath and begin to hyperventilate. Palpitations occur and you start sweating. All signs of panic attacks.
Can you do anything about this? And what role does CBD oil play here? Does CBD oil or cannabis oil help against or with panic attacks? In the following blog article, you can read about panic attacks and CBD oil.
What is a panic attack?
An overwhelming wave of fear, that’s what a panic attack feels like. If you have never had a panic attack, it feels like it comes out of nowhere. It doesn’t only occur during the day, but it can also strike you in your sleep. If you have had a panic attack before, or you experience them often, you can feel a panic attack coming on. Often you then also know what to do. It can also be that a panic attack occurs only once and you never have it again. This is not the case for most people.
A panic attack comes from somewhere. It can be fear. You have to climb a tall tower and you have a fear of heights. You have to give a presentation to a large group of people, but you don’t feel comfortable with it. Your body reacts strongly to a certain situation where you step out of your comfort zone. You feel like you have to and want to flee. It can also be part of a disorder. Think of depression or a phobia. In these cases, the attacks can come at an unexpected moment. This can be when you are calmly watching TV on the couch or when you are driving.
It also recurs with unpleasant memories. You once had an accident and every time you get in the car you think back to it. Your body remembers that moment and you feel the panic attack coming on again. However and whenever you get it, it affects your life.
How do you recognize a panic attack?
A panic attack can develop within a few minutes and usually lasts a short time. It rarely lasts longer than an hour and often disappears within half an hour. Yet these moments can feel like an eternity. You can recognize a panic attack by the following symptoms, among others;
- Chest pain
- Hyperventilation or shortness of breath
- Palpitations
- Feeling like you are choking
- Surreal feeling
- Sweating
- Trembling
- Stomach complaints or nausea
- Dizziness
- Lightheadedness or even fainting
- Numb or tingling sensation in your body, often in your hands
- Hot flashes or chills
- Fear of losing control or even dying
If you feel a panic attack coming on, try to stay calm above all. Control your breathing. Try counting along, breathe in deeply and exhale again in three seconds. Go to a familiar place and close your eyes. Try to accept that you are having a panic attack. Focus on a person or an object. Take a position where you feel comfortable. This can be lying down or by placing your shoes firmly against the wall and focusing on that. You can also call a trusted person to be with you when you have a panic attack.
Do panic attacks occur regularly? Then consult a specialist or general practitioner. The cause may have a deeper reason. It is good to talk to someone about it to find out.
How can CBD oil help with panic attacks?
For centuries, people have used the power of substances from the cannabis plant. Naturally, cannabis can be pain-relieving and calming. CBD oil is freely available and legal in the Netherlands because it contains less than 0.05% THC. CBD oil can be an excellent aid to reduce or even prevent panic.
If you suffer from panic attacks, you can start using CBD oil. CBD oil from ProHemp is available in different percentages. The right dosage depends on your complaint. Body weight and age also play a role.
We therefore advise starting with a CBD oil 5%. Your body needs to get used to CBD, so the buildup phase is important. Start with a dosage of two or three drops three times a day. After three days, increase the dosage by one drop until you reach a maximum of six drops.
When your 5% bottle is finished, move on to CBD oil 10%. You halve your dosage and build up until you achieve the desired result. Also read a previous blog article about dosage ‘Which CBD dosage suits you’
Whether you have irregular or regular panic attacks, you can always use CBD oil. Often panic attacks are caused by underlying complaints.
Think of stress due to a private situation or a situation at work. You may be anxious or sleep poorly, resulting in less energy. CBD oil can support all these complaints.
CBD contains terpenes…
CBD can not only help reduce your panic attacks, it also contains terpenes. Terpenes are substances that also come from the hemp plant and are present in CBD oil.
The terpenes provide a calming effect. Using CBD oil can not only reduce your panic attacks, it can also help you feel better, have a calm feeling, and sleep well. A good night’s rest ensures a refreshed feeling. This way you experience less stress and have more energy. This is very important if you want to prevent panic attacks.
