Are you allowed to take CBD oil with you when traveling?
Travel is currently (May 2020) at a standstill. Looking at the trend, people are traveling more often. Especially short city trips. When we travel, we increasingly take the plane and are checked at departure and arrival.
Many trips are made with the goal of relaxation. To not think about anything and just let everything go. If you use CBD oil, you want to continue using it, even on vacation. Can you take your cannabis oil or CBD oil with you worry-free? We have researched it for you.
Traveling with cannabis oil…
When talking about cannabis oil, this can refer to CBD oil or weed oil, also known as THC oil. We have previously written about the difference between weed oil and CBD oil. The big difference is that weed oil, or THC oil, is illegal, while CBD oil is legal within the Netherlands.
You are not allowed to take THC oil with you when traveling. This is also on the list that falls under the Opium Act. If you want to travel with a substance on this list, you must always apply for a Schengen declaration. You need this if you travel to the following countries:
- Belgium
- Denmark
- Germany
- Estonia
- Finland
- France
- Greece
- Hungary
- Italy
- Latvia
- Lithuania
- Luxembourg
- Malta
- Norway
- Austria
- Poland
- Portugal
- Slovenia
- Slovakia
- Spain
- Czech Republic
- Iceland
- Sweden
- Switzerland
If you have a trip planned and want to apply for a Schengen declaration, keep in mind that this declaration is only valid for thirty days. This declaration is only valid when people use cannabis oil or weed oil on a doctor’s prescription. If you don’t have this, you can always ask your doctor to provide it.
Traveling outside the Schengen countries…
If you want to travel outside the Schengen countries with cannabis oil (weed oil), you need permission from the embassy or consulate of the country you are going to. In addition, you need an English medical certificate from your own doctor. If you have this certificate, it is usually valid for 1 year. This only applies to the country for which the certificate is issued.
We still hear many stories of people secretly hiding cannabis oil in their own luggage. If you do this, you risk getting caught. The countries you travel to all have their own rules for this. In some countries, the penalties are harsher than in others. In Asian countries or the US, it is considered drug trafficking and severe penalties apply. We advise not to take cannabis oil with you if you do not have a declaration.
Traveling with CBD oil…
There are multiple suppliers of CBD oil. When we talk about CBD oil in this article, we exclusively mean ProHemp’s CBD oil.
By law, CBD oil may not contain more than 0.05% THC. This is a negligible amount. THC causes the ‘high’ feeling. ProHemp’s CBD oil contains less than 0.05% THC, making it legal in the Netherlands and Europe. CBD oil is not covered by the Opium Act. Therefore, you are allowed to travel within Europe with CBD oil.
We advise you to always research the destination country. Some things you can look into are:
- What is the advice from customs?
- Is CBD oil legal in the destination country?
- Can you buy CBD oil online in the destination country?
Within Europe, traveling with CBD oil should not be a problem. If you want to travel outside Europe, we advise you to be more cautious and always carefully check the laws in those countries. We already mentioned Asian countries and the United States. There are also countries that consider any product derived from the cannabis plant as drugs. Our bottle has an image of a cannabis leaf, which may cause difficulties in some countries.
If you are traveling outside Europe, always contact the customs of the country, explain the situation, and ask for advice. You can also protect yourself by always having a test report. to take with you. We have lab test reports that accurately describe the ingredients of your CBD oil. You can always request these from us, even if you don’t plan to travel.
Relaxed travel? Make sure to prepare well…
As you have read in this blog article, there are some complications when traveling with CBD oil. Good preparation is very important in this case. The most important thing is that you can enjoy your vacation without stress. Always make sure to have the correct documents.
It’s better to carry too many documents than too few. No one wants to be caught off guard when traveling. You just landed, go through customs, and get selected for inspection. If you have cannabis oil (THC oil), it becomes even more complicated.
Always make sure to have a doctor’s certificate and a Schengen declaration. Traveling with CBD oil is easier. In Europe, you generally shouldn’t have any problems within most countries. However, we advise you to always familiarize yourself with the regulations of the country you are traveling to.
Good preparation ensures a relaxed trip.
