Vitamin drops for children: The development of a child happens at a rapid pace. Children grow quickly, and it is very important for children to get enough vitamins and minerals. Most vitamins are obtained through healthy and varied food. Some vitamins need to be given additionally. In the next blog article, we will look at which vitamins are important for children and how your child can best get these vitamins.

When do you start giving extra vitamins to children?

Did you know that babies naturally have a vitamin K deficiency? This is because vitamin K cannot be passed through the placenta during pregnancy. As a result, vitamin K cannot reach the unborn child and the baby cannot build up a reserve. A baby has too few gut bacteria in the first three months, which play an important role in producing vitamin K. Therefore, the chance of a vitamin K deficiency is high.

After birth, all babies in the Netherlands immediately receive 1 milligram of vitamin K. This is due to the risk of serious bleeding caused by a vitamin K deficiency. This initial dose helps prevent bleeding during the first 24 hours up to the first week after the birth of a child.

If you breastfeed, it is important to give your child extra vitamin K. If you give formula feeding, you do not need to give vitamin K. Vitamin K is included in the formula. With breastfeeding, it is important that you give 150 micrograms of vitamin K daily from day 8 until your baby is 13 weeks old.

If you combine breastfeeding and formula feeding, you can stop giving vitamin K when your baby receives 500 milliliters or more of formula per day.

It is important that the 13 weeks are counted from the due date. If your child was born 3 weeks early, then it is 13 + 3 weeks. A total of 16 weeks that you give extra vitamin K.

Another important vitamin for your child is vitamin D. Until your child is 4 years old, they need extra vitamin D every day. When you buy vitamin D for your child up to 4 years old, the bottle or packaging often indicates how many drops your child needs.

It may happen that you forget to give the vitamin one day. If you occasionally forget, this is not harmful or serious. However, it is important that you continue to give your child vitamin D. A helpful trick is to give the vitamin D at a fixed time. You can do this in the morning with the first feeding. You can also combine it with the fruit puree that you will start giving daily after 4-6 months. You can, for example, drop the vitamin D onto a small plastic spoon. This way you can count the drops and easily give the vitamin to your child.

You start immediately giving some vitamins at the birth of your child.

How do I ensure my child gets enough vitamins?

Nutrition is the most important source for the right vitamins and minerals. You get vitamins through vegetables, fruit, or other food. Some vitamins are produced by the body itself, such as vitamin B3. You get vitamin D by exposing your skin to the sun (UV light).

A more varied meal is therefore very important for children. From the moment a child starts eating solid foods, you begin with vegetable and fruit purees. If you want your child to get used to it well, start with vegetable purees. Let your baby get used to different flavors. This ensures that your child will not become a picky eater later. If you start with fruit purees, your baby may get used to the sweet flavors and consequently refuse the vegetable purees. You can buy vegetable and fruit purees in jars, or you can make them fresh. If you make the purees fresh, you can freeze them and thaw them on the day of use to give to your child. From 8 months you can let your baby 'eat along' with the food you prepare. Try not to add sugar or salt and mash the food finely.

From 4 years old you can start giving extra vitamins in the form of vitamin drops.

Most of these vitamins your child gets through a varied meal. We see many children with a deficiency of various vitamins. You can supplement this by giving your child vitamin drops. Vitamin drops from ProHemp come in a handy bottle that is supplied with a dropper.

We recommend supplementing the vitamins with the following vitamin drops.

Vitamin D3 + K2 drops

Vitamin K was long mainly seen as a blood clotting vitamin, but in recent years it has become clear that vitamin K has many more important functions. Together with vitamin D3, vitamin K2 regulates calcium balance. Vitamin A drops

Vitamin A supports the defense and immune system in our body. It belongs to the fat-soluble vitamins. Our body cannot produce Vitamin A itself. It is therefore important that you get enough Vitamin A. With Vitamin A drops, you ensure that you do not have a deficiency.

All vitamin drops at ProHemp are blended with hemp seed oil, black seed oil, and flaxseed oil.

  • Hemp seed oil has many benefits. These include promoting heart health, aiding weight loss, and strengthening the immune system. It is also anti-inflammatory and can improve brain functions. Additionally, it can support your digestion. Hemp seed oil is sometimes called Mother Nature’s most perfectly balanced oil because it has an ideal 3:1 ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 essential fatty acids. It also contains smaller amounts of polyunsaturated fatty acids; gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), oleic acid, and stearidonic acid. This combination is unique among edible oil seeds. Hemp seed contains all the essential amino acids and all the essential fatty acids humans need.
  • Flaxseed oil can help remove waste products from your body. It effectively 'lubricates' your colon, keeping your bowel movements and digestion healthy and active.
  • Black seed oil was traditionally used to treat conditions such as asthma and bronchitis, as well as rheumatism and other inflammatory diseases. Due to its many active ingredients, black cumin seed helps build the immune system, stimulates digestion and excretion. The seed fights parasites and regulates blood sugar. Skin conditions can be very well treated with black cumin seed oil, as well as symptoms of a cold.

It is a good source of essential fatty acids.

How many vitamin drops should a child aged 4 to 8 years receive?

ProHemp’s vitamin A drops contain 0.8 mg of vitamin A per 1 ml. This means your child between 4 and 8 years old may take 10 drops per day.

For vitamin D3 + K2 drops, your child between 4 and 8 years old only needs 5 drops per day.

For the vitamin E drops, we recommend giving 3 drops per day to a child aged 4 to 8 years.

The best effect is when the drops are placed directly under the tongue and held there for 90 seconds. This can be difficult for children, and it is also allowed to swallow them immediately. You can also drop the drops onto a spoon and give it to your child.
