From what age is CBD oil safe? Questions we receive daily from parents who often use CBD oil themselves.
Even parents who have no experience with CBD ask us if CBD oil is suitable for their child. In this blog article, we delve deeper into the question: is CBD oil suitable for children, toddlers, preschoolers, and teenagers?
The difference between cannabis oil and CBD oil
Many customers still compare cannabis oil with CBD oil. They are like two brothers. However, they do not share everything. An important point is the THC content.
In the Netherlands, it is forbidden to have more than 0.05% THC in your product. Cannabis oil contains THC, and CBD oil may not contain more than 0.05% THC.
THC is the substance that gives you a ‘high’ feeling. All products from ProHemp contain ≤ 0.04% THC. This is a negligible amount. This makes it impossible to overdose. This also makes CBD oil suitable for children and even pets.
CBD oil is suitable for children
Our CBD oil is made from Full Spectrum CBD. We discovered that the market benefits from a high-quality CBD.
Our CBD products consist not only of CBD but also of cannabinoids and terpenes. These substances not only support each other but also enhance each other. This achieves an optimal effect. This is called Full Spectrum CBD oil.
Is CBD oil suitable for children?
Charlotte Figgi, a five-year-old American girl, made headlines after CNN made a documentary about her. Charlotte had more than 300 severe epileptic seizures per week.
This has been reduced to 1 to 2 seizures through the use of CBD. Life became much more bearable as a result. The same story applies to Crohn's disease. A seriously ill teenage boy could no longer function because of the disease. CBD also proved to be the solution for him. These are extreme examples. Fortunately, these examples are leading to more and more research into the effects of CBD.
After 2013, more and more positive stories emerged about children with a condition and the use of CBD.
When do you use CBD oil?
It is often thought that CBD oil is only suitable for people with complaints. The opposite turns out to be true. CBD can also be used preventively. Athletes also use CBD products for both performance and recovery.
CBD can be used for both mild complaints such as stress or insomnia and more severe complaints such as chronic back pain.
Depending on the complaint, you can choose the percentage. CBD oil is suitable for children and elderly people for the following complaints:
- ADHD / ADD
- inflammations
- stress
- headache
- acne
- panic attacks
- menstrual pain
- insomnia
- nerve pain
- back pain
These are the most common complaints we see. Of course, it can help with other complaints as well. If in doubt, you can always ask us for personal advice.
Which CBD percentage is suitable for children
Depending on your complaint, weight, and age, we always look together with the customer at the desired CBD percentage. Children are smaller and lighter than adults.
That is why it is important to choose the right dosage and percentage. We previously wrote a blog about this. ‘Which dosage suits you? 5 tips for the right CBD dosage’.
For children, it is recommended to start with a low percentage. ProHemp offers CBD oil 5%. If you are a beginner user or your child is using CBD oil for the first time, it is important to consider the buildup phase. The buildup phase lasts eight to twelve weeks.
During these weeks, your body can get used to CBD. In the buildup phase, start with one drop three times a day. After three days, increase the dosage by one drop.
It is important to closely observe your child's reaction. If he/she is old enough to communicate well, ask how they feel each day. You can keep track in a notebook to monitor your child's condition.
Start the buildup phase with one drop three times a day. During the buildup phase, increase each dose by one drop every three days. Continue until you reach the desired effect.
You cannot overdose, not even children. So you can safely increase the dosage. However, we advise switching to a higher percentage at a higher dosage.
For example, if you use six drops three times a day per dose (2.5%), switch to CBD oil 5% and use three drops three times a day per dose.
If you have achieved the desired effect, continue with this CBD oil at the desired percentage and dosage. After a few weeks, you can gradually reduce the dosage by one drop every three days.
Never stop CBD abruptly. If you have stopped for a few weeks, you must start the buildup phase again to allow your body to adjust.
